Fr Luiz Ruscillo
Light in the Darkness: Who is the Word of God?

Last night was the first of our 'Soulfood' evenings here in Lancaster and Fr Luiz did not disappoint with a highly amusing and informative run through the Old Testament. He illustrated the different types of writing, the historical contexts and the journey of the Israelites as they escaped Egypt, wandered in the Desert, found the Promised Land, got exiled from it and eventually found their way back again.

The underlying message through all of this, Fr Luiz pointed out, was the covenant that God made with His people. Through the different characters and events God was always first to show He is faithful and that His love endures forever.

The Word of God therefore is not just a book that we call the Bible but in fact the relationship between God and His people. A relationship so full of love, so powerful and so alive and active that He is a person. The Word is Jesus, who became flesh so that He could show us once and for all the depth of the Father’s love for each one of us.

All that in just one evening! We were definitely ready for our Pizza by the end of it!!
